Let’s be honest, the latest anti-aging diets and skincare products may slow down aging, but hardly reverse it. Aging waits for no (wo)man, and nowhere projects this more than on the face. Here are 5 sure-fire ways to take years off your face and leave you looking radiant within a week.

1. Boost Skin Renewal
A dull and faded complexion is a giveaway sign of aging. The radiance of youthful skin is by virtue of a high skin turnover rate. As we grow older, this renewal ability slackens inescapably. To counteract this, the use of products with exfoliating ingredients, such as glycolic acid and retinol, will encourage the skin to work at a more youthful pace. Such skin renewal products remove dry skin and dead skin cells, smooth out fine lines, improve discolouration and trigger collagen production. With less buildup, the skin can maximise the absorption of skincare products too. If you have not exfoliate regularly before, you may experience peeling which will subside once your skin is running at juvenile mode.
2. Reversing Aging Changes with Injectables
In a recent post, we went into detail on how filling up the face in the right places restores the “triangle of youth” and is an instant age-reverser. Age hollows out the temples, cheeks, tear troughs (giving you eye bags) and nasolabial folds. To reverse this sunken and tired appearance, volumizing with fillers containing hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural occurring substance abundant in young skin, is a clear solution.
Skin creases more with age and is partly due to facial muscle expressions, such as frowning, lip puckering, brow raising and smiling. When injected into facial muscles, Botox weakens these muscles weaken and stops the skin from creasing. Often paired with filler injections, these two well-loved “injectables” are the commonest clinic-based procedures for anti-aging.
It is not uncommon to develop bruising after filler or botox injections. Always seek an experience doctor when it come to injectables. In the wrong hands, not only would you not get the result you desire, but can be at risk of skin breakdown or even blindness.
Another injectable that can help turn back time is polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN). Made up of the building blocks of DNA, PDRN boosts skin rejuvenation and cell regeneration by providing these building blocks for synthesis of DNA. The result is skin that behave younger.

3. Skin Tightening Technology
Ultherapy uses ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production in the skin’s foundation, the deep dermis, resulting in a skin tightening and lifting. Its unique ability to penetrate into the depths of the the skin whilst leaving the superficial skin unscathed, makes it a procedure with minimal downtime. After treatment, you may find tightening effects immediately but this is due to mild swelling. The actual collagen remodeling takes about 2-3 months, and that is when you will see the full lifting effect. Because there are no injections or cuts involved, many people look to Ultherapy as their first non-surgical facelift. To maximize the results of Ultherapy, which targets the deeper skin layers, another FDA approved skin tightening radiofrequency device Thermage targets the superficial skin layers. “By heating up both deep and superficial layers of the skin”, explains Dr Michelle Lim, an Aesthetic Consultant from in SW1 Clinic, one of the pioneering clinics for Ultherapy in Singapore, “our award-winning Trinity Facelift Program combines both Thermage and Ultherapy to deliver a facial uplift and a pore tightening effect at the same time.”
4. Recycle Your Fat
Fat grafting makes up one of the most popular procedures in rejuvenating the face. This was not the case a decade ago, because most of the fat injected do not persist at the site where it is injected into. The boost in fat grafting is driven by the refinement of fat processing techniques, and the result is that areas that receive fat grafts now have better survival, less lumpiness and also rejuvenate the tissues. A portion of the fat injected will dissolve, between 30 -50%, and a repeat session of fat grafting is often needed. The result of the fat that remains is long-lasting.
I would say one of the perks of fat transfer is that body sculpting using liposuction can be done at the same time. Fat harvested using liposuction are processed into Microfat and/or Nanofat. Apart from volumizing age-depleted hollows in the face using Microfat, Nanofat is a rich source of adipose-derived stem cells which has proven repair and regenerative capability when injected into the skin.

5. Thread Lift
Time and gravity are the main culprits for facial sagging. Forget false advertorial claims, no creams can undo tissue drooping. Thread lifts , on the other hand, are designed to reverse skin sagging like jowls, cheeks, nasolabial folds and brows and are deployed into our skin using needles – no cuts are made for these non-surgical threads. Threads are armed with cones or barbs that grabs tissues, lifts and anchors it higher in the face. Apart from this mechanical pull, some threads are made of material that deliver “biostimulation”, where the skin produces collagen in response to the threads and give added rejuvenation. The effects last for around 2-3 years, depending on the type of threads used. What I love about thread lift is that regular treatment will help to retard the ageing process!
Surgical thread lifts are inserted through a small cut behind the hairline at the temples and have stronger lifting capacity and longer lasting results. “Combine thread lifts with face sculpting through buccal fat removal, jaw or masseter reduction,” added Dr Chia Hui Ling, Consultant Plastic Surgeon at SW1 Plastic Surgery Clinic, “you can achieve a more youthful V-shaped face.” Some side effects of thread lift include bruising, skin dimpling and asymmetry – always consult a doctor skilled in thread lifts to minimise these risks.
