Liposuction is a well-loved but often misunderstood procedure. Girlfriday looks to our beauty and medical experts for answers to the top questions on “lipo”.
- It takes 3 months or longer to see the final result
It may be shocking to some that you may actually gain weight straight after the procedure. This is due to the fluids infused to aid liposuction and fortunately this is temporary. In any case, you should focus on the better shape gained and the inches lost after liposuction, rather than the weight change.
True results may take a few months to show up, depending on how much lipo is done. “After the fat is removed, it is substituted by swelling and this takes a few months to go away,” says consultant plastic surgeon Dr. Chia Hui Ling. I was also glad to find out that the effect of liposuction may be more than fat removal. “Vaser liposuction uses ultrasound technology to melt fat, which helps with skin tightening at the same time.” Score.

- Choose the right surgeon
Regardless of which technology is used, the result transcends upon the surgeon you choose. Find an accredited or board certified plastic surgeon, who is highly trained with proven results. It is important to find a surgeon and team you feel comfortable with, to ensure you achieve the results you desire in a comfortable environment.

Dr Chia explains, after encouraging liposuction results, many of her patients are more motivated to stick to a healthy lifestyle to maintain the results.

- Yes, you can recycle the fat!
I must say fat grafting is my favourite procedure to date! Switching fat from your tummy and thigh into your breasts is a dream come true for many. Fat is collected using liposuction and injected into where it’s needed, as Nanofat to rejuvenate your skin and as Microfat for the plumping effect.
